Toward a Time Trend Analysis of Dioxin Emissions and Exposure
نویسنده
چکیده
Old agrochemical samples were analyzed for their dioxin impurities. Some herbicides were contaminated with 2,3,7,8-chlorine-substituted dioxin congeners. Using these new data as well as impurity and emission data reported in the literature, the time trends for dioxin emissions from the use of chlorinated aromatic compounds and some incineration activities have been estimated. The results indicate that dioxin emission was high during 1960s and 1970s and then decreased in terms of both amount of dioxin (PCDD/Fs) and toxic equivalent (TEQ). Herbicides were the major sources in the high emission period. After the mid-1980s, incineration sources became major. The order of importance in terms of total dioxin emission into the environment during the past 40 years is estimated to be chloronitrofen (CNP) > pentachlorophenol (PCP) > municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) ≅ industrial waste incineration (IWI) in terms of PCDD/Fs and PCP > CNP > PCB > MSWI ≅ IWI in terms of I-TEQ.

Association between Environmental Dioxin-Related Toxicants Exposure and Adverse Pregnancy Outcome: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Dioxin-related compounds are associated with teratogenic and mutagenic risks in laboratory animals, and result in adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, there were inconsistent results in epidemiology studies. In view of this difference, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine this association and to assess the heterogeneity among studies. Comprehensive literature searches w...

The experiment was conducted in factorial test based on a completely randomized design with three replications in greenhouse of Isfahan University of Technology of Iran. Lettuce seedlings were exposed separately to the exhaust emissions in three different exposure times (10, 20 and 30 days) and after the exposure time, their morphological, physiological and anatomical traits were measured and c...
متن کاملNo evidence of increased risk of soft tissue sarcomas in the neighborhood of a steel foundry in Verona.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible association between occurrence of soft tissue sarcomas in Verona (Italy) and residence near a steel foundry, whose emissions of dioxin-like compounds may be relevant. Exposure to total suspended particulate (TSP) emitted from the plant as estimated by ADMS-urban dispersion model was used as an indirect index of exposure to dioxin-like co...

In October 2010, nine ministries and commissions of China jointly issued Guidance on the Strengthening of Dioxin Pollution Prevention [Ministry of Environmental Protection of People's Republic of China (MEP) 2010], which requires key dioxin-emitting industries to carry out comprehensive actions to reduce dioxin emissions. This is a major historical milestone in China's fight against dioxin poll...

Background A public health intervention program with active involvement of local related stakeholders was piloted in the Bien Hoa dioxin hotspot (2007-2009), and then expanded to the Da Nang dioxin hotspot in Vietnam (2009-2011). It aimed to reduce the risk of dioxin exposure through foods for local residents. This article presents the results of the intervention in Da Nang. Methodology To asse...
